What is BTU? 

Keep in mind that most air conditioners are specified by manufacturers not in watts, but in BTUs (British thermal units – British thermal units expressing the heat required to raise or lower the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit). Thus, 1 W=3,412 BTU and, accordingly, 1 BTU=0,2931 W. That’s why the result of the power calculations in watts, probably have to be converted to BTU, in order to be able to accurately compare the model figures with their own calculations made earlier.


Filtration systems of air conditioners 


The models of air conditioners with built-in filtration systems, which are able to clean indoor air from unwanted odors and impurities, are gaining great popularity among consumers. The list of the most common filters includes: 


1 – charcoal filters, 

2 – electrostatic (plasma) 

3 – antibacterial. 


The functioning of the first is based on the absorbent properties of coal, applied on a paper base. They need to be replaced regularly once a month.


These products from different manufacturers may differ in the color of the paper and name. Today, carbon filters can be found under the names: “carbon filter”, “active charcoal filter”, “catechin filter”, and “biofilter”. 


Electrostatic, or plasma filters exploit the property of attracting charges of different polarities. Dirty particles with air get inside, are charged, and pass through metal plates polarized by the opposite charge. Thus, due to the magnetic force, almost all dust is deposited on the filtering surface rather than returned back to the room air.


These filters work properly during the whole service life of the air conditioner. To clean them from dirt, all you need to do is to wash them periodically. 


Antibacterial filters, based on disinfecting properties of silver or ultraviolet, are used for the elimination of pathogenic bacteria from indoor air. Their service life is the same as in air conditioners where these products are used.

Different models of air conditioners can differ from their analogs by the presence of those or other functions, and modes of operation. 


  1. Direction of air streams


This function allows changing the positions of louvers that set the direction of air masses movement. During cooling mode, this will help to direct air upwards and protect people from draughts, and during heating mode – to direct heat (which tends to accumulate at the ceiling) downwards and thus increase the efficiency of the air conditioner.

Conditioners having this operating mode are able to analyze by themselves the surrounding microclimate and set the ideal temperature parameters for a comfortable stay in the room.

In this mode device lowers speed as much as possible, decreases operational noise, and begins to decrease or increase temperature smoothly till desirable indexes, providing quiet sleep and maximum comfort to house tenants.
